The small cabinet is a clean-room unit that has been constructed from custom aluminium profiles, glass sheets, rubber inserts and wooden beehives. the base plate of glass has been cut with a queen restrictor mesh, allowing worker-bees to access the encased structure from two hives hung beneath the cabinet.
Over the course of the fair, 40 000 worker bees were released into the case to complete a wax honeycomb structure over the figure of a martyred christ rising out of the chaos, his weight seeming to be upheld by the mass strength of the swarm. the figure within the vitrine
is made of a laser sintered framework in which the industrious bees created a honeycomb skin over before filling each cell with the honey they produce. then bees worked to remove the honey from the cells and return it to the beehive, cleaning the figure back to the wax cells they
originally created. tomáš made the honeycomb a red-orange color to symbolize the cross.

A new work safe pin-up calender for all you sly dog doctors out there.

“EIZO medical imaging high precision displays for the examination and diagnosis of radiographs. Whereas craftsmen are showered with pin-up-calendars at the end of every year, this kind of present is less popular among medics. EIZO breaks this taboo. This pin-up calendar shows absolutely every detail.”

Gigantic Solar Waterfall

May 8, 2010

Designed by Swiss architecture firm RAFAA,  building is equipped with solar panels, the solar energy to pump seawater to its top, and resulting falling water spins turbines that produce energy during the night. Guess what? It’s specifically for the 2016 Olympic Games. I know seems like a long time, but this definitely dope! Named the Solar City Tower, the building is equipped with solar panels that pump seawater to its top (using solar energy) which results to falling water that spins turbines which produces energy during the night. The tower can also transform into an urban waterfall the designer calls “a symbol for the forces of nature.”  RAFAA expect to fill the building with an amphitheater, auditorium, cafeteria and shops. This solar city tower even includes bungee jumping and a “glass sky walk” on the very top. “The aim of this project is to ask how the classic concept of a landmark can be reconsidered. It is less about an expressive, iconic architectural form; rather, it is a return to content and actual, real challenges for the imminent post-oil-era. This project represents a message of a society facing the future; thus, it is the representation of an inner attitude. Our project, standing in the tradition of “a building/city as a machine”, shall provide energy both to the city of Rio de Janeiro and its citizens while using natural resources.” I really like this!
